Doula Testimonial

When I started looking for doulas I found Staci Bishop through the Hypnobabies website since she is a hypno certified doula.  I had planned to “interview” multiple people but after I met Staci I knew I didn’t need to look any further!  She was so warm, so knowledgeable, and made me feel so comfortable and confident that I could have the beautiful natural childbirth that I wanted to have.

She was available to me throughout my entire pregnancy to answer any questions that I had and was always extremely responsive.  During birth she was right by my side the entire time bringing me water, cold compresses, applying counter pressure, etc.  Not only did I love her, but my husband was also SO glad that we had Staci as our doula.  She helped him tremendously throughout the birthing day.

I also loved how thorough Staci was during our postpartum visit.  We talked about everything from how I was adapting to mommyhood and my emotional health; breastfeeding and the benefits of it; vaccinations; pediatricians; chiropractic care for newborns; homeopathic treatments for newborns through adults; postpartum exercises; baby wearing; etc!  It was probably the most beneficial meeting of my entire pregnancy!

I honestly can’t say enough great things about Staci!  Seriously, just hire her, you won’t regret it!  J

Thank YOU (for helping us homeschool)!

This is a post of a personal nature and one of gratitude.

First, a little history. Around Thanksgiving we started really rolling around the idea of homeschooling. Like, for real this time.

The thought of starting in the middle of the year was daunting. Homeschool has a ton of pros and cons. However, one of the cons is that you are now solely responsible for the costs for curriculum. There are many other fees just to get started and we were not prepared in the slightest.

So, I put out a call for holiday nYn orders and I decided that I would use the proceeds to fund our homeschool startup venture. Not only did I make enough to meet the fees for our umbrella school registration but there was a little extra too, which will help us in purchasing a few supplies to get started. Like an electric pencil sharpener. I hear that's a must have. ;)

So, I just wanted to thank all of you who believe in nYn products and made purchases during the month of December. You will always hold a special place in my heart because you helped us get our start in this homeschool adventure. In fact, nYn may become one of the main funding sources of The Bishop Leadership Academy (or whatever fancy name we come up with) so let me know if you need anything. In the meantime, I'll be doing a lot more of this....

My 2013 Doula Babies

Here is a look back at what I experienced in 2013 as I helped 7 beautiful families.

****************
  • 2 girls (making it a streak of 7 girls from last year), followed by 5 boys in a row
  • I had 3 clients having their 1st child, 3 clients having their 2nd child, and 1 client having her 4th child.
  • Earliest delivery was 38 weeks, 3 days and the longest was 41 weeks, 0 days.
  • The average gestation was 39 weeks, 4 days for my 1st time moms.
  • The shortest labor was 6 hours the longest labor was 66 hours.
  • I attended births at Summit, Maury Regional, and Vanderbilt hospitals.
  • Midwives were present at 4 of the births, and an obstetrician was present at the other 3.
  • An epidural was chosen 33% of the time.
  • Pitocin was only used in 2 deliveries.
  • With my VBAC clients, there was a 50% success rate. All other clients delivered vaginally.
  • Induction, assisted delivery (forceps) and episiotomy rates were all low at 14% (1 out of 7).
****************

One big accomplishment for this year was completing my Hypno-Doula Certification. I absolutely adore working with Hypnobabies moms! Other memorable moments included being able to assist the midwife in delivering a baby and being selected to cut the cord for another baby. I also served my first repeat client this year. It's such a privilege to be invited back to assist a family for such a memorable occasion.

Wonder what 2014 will bring?
